Building Credibility Personal Strengths was featured on World Business Review with General Alexander Haig in a segment that highlighted how United Airlines has used the SDI as a key relationship component of their Crew Resource Management training. The four-minute video can be downloaded and used to help you sell Relationship Awareness training to your organization or clients. We have also found it to be a great credibility-builder when shown DURING a training event. Consider playing the video for participants after returning from a break. Read more here.
Motivation vs. Behavior Relationship Awareness Theory is a purposive description of relationships. Using language consistent with a motivation theory will get even better results than using language consistent with a behavioral theory. For more detail on this topic…
Great Balls of Conflict!!! Use a set of Color Shift Morph Balls to illustrate the second premise of Relationship Awareness. The Blue, Red, and Green balls change colors when in “conflict.” Put the Green ball under too much pressure and it changes to Blue – just like an MVS can change from one color to another color in conflict. Reduce the pressure and the ball resumes its original shape and color – just like people strive to return to their MVS and restore their sense of self-worth when resolving conflict. SDI Days A fun post-training reinforcer idea had the employees at Nextel Partners dressing up for a week! After one department went through their SDI training, they initiated “SDI Days,” a week-long, team-building activity. Each day of a particular week was selected to represent a specific MVS — both in clothing color and in communication.
Monday: Blue Day Tuesday: Green Day Wednesday: Red Day Thursday: Hub Day
The idea was to reinforce the strengths associated with each MVS by practicing the language, skills and characteristics that relate to each MVS. The managers of the department sent out lists of characteristics and phrases to use when borrowing from a particular MVS. This activity reinforced the idea that we are always around various motivational value systems. The employees had fun "catching" each other in and out of the MVS color of the day.
